When music becomes fashion

In the 1980s, Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn revolutionised the visual aesthetics of music with his staging of bands like U2 or Depeche Mode. Now he returns with a fascinating photo project: What might a fashion style look like if it were shaped by a band and its album? - A freely invented story with images, created by artificial intelligence.

The idea behind the 68-year-old star photographer's latest work is simple: "What would it look like if a band's album became a fashion style?" With his camera, Anton Corbijn transfers the essence of music into the world of fashion. He transforms the visual identity of legendary albums into iconic fashion styles, creating new perspectives on the creative fusion of music and fashion.

The first album transformed into a fashion style by Corbijn was "The Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. In keeping with the melancholy, atmospheric sounds, in a barren landscape, the model gazing introspectively into the distance. Almost casually, it annexes the cover of the legendary concept album, which shows a prism with a refraction of light into the spectral colours.

For the production of the Depeche Mode album "Violator", Corbijn sets the model with black sunglasses in a black trench coat in front of a wall of red roses. In this way, he brings the darkness, intensity and emotionality of the British synth-pop band's most successful studio album to the point, to which rock elements lend a certain hardness and energy.

With his unmistakable aesthetic, Anton Corbijn has once again proven with this photo project that he is a master of visual staging and has the ability to capture and express the music in a unique way. When asked how he experienced dealing with the works of the Eighties after such a long time, the photographer was visibly irritated: He was not aware of any such photo project. Now that he is right...

The truth behind this story and its pictures

Just as the above story is fictitious, the photos shown here are not real either. They were generated by Dominique Haussener (Managing Director evoq Zurich) and Thomas Barthelmeus (self-employed screenwriter in Hamburg) with the help of midjourney 's Artificial Intelligence.

evoq is open to the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence. We are convinced that the advantages of artificial intelligence outweigh the disadvantages and, when used in a targeted manner, represent added value for our customers. The dynamic development in this area requires a critical and adaptive approach to these technologies. We are actively involved in this discussion.
